Bathiya , Santhush to rock the Sebs after 'Walk'

Bathiya , Santhush to rock the Sebs after 'Walk'

http://music101.files.wordpress.com/2007/03/image0012.jpg

Sebs Walk, Exhibition and a mega musical Concert will come alive at the St. Sebastian's College, Moratuwa on October 7. The 'Walk', the biggest fund raising project of the College, will start at 7.30 am. From the College Grounds. The College students, parents and old boys with well wishers will walk along the city stretch in the Galle Road, Moratuwa extending up to 4 km. to raise funds for the construction of the chapel for the College. This Walk will be followed with a Science and Technology Exhibition at the College premises in a carnival atmosphere till evening and to be concluded the day's activities with a grand musical show featuring Bathiya and Santhush , Ashanthi and Randir.

Bathiya Santhush

The Science and Technology Exhibition to be followed soon after the Walk on this day will be opened by Dr. Shyam Fernando, a distinguished old boy of the College. Rev. Fr. Bonnie Fernandopulle, Rector / Principal is confident that this event would be a success and invites all parents, old boys and well wishers to join this gigantic event.

The College administration is confident that around 15,000 will gather on this day to walk for the College and arrangements have been made to make this a very colorful event and it would definitely be a huge attraction.

St. Sebastian's College, commenced in 1856, now 153 years in existence and with a present student population of 3000 it remains to be one of the few privately managed schools in the country and also the leading Catholic school in the south of Colombo.

In 2003, Rev. Fr. Bonnie Fernandopulle became the Rector of the College. Since he became the Rector, having identified the requirements of the institution, immediately implemented a short-term accelerated development plan to improve the infrastructure facilities of the school as a top priority.

The improvement of the facilities of the College has been imperative to accommodate the increasing number of student admissions and expanding streams of languages for education as required by the current curriculum of the Department of Education.

‘Within three years, with his drive and total commitment and with Grace of the God, Rev. Fr. Fernandopulle made it possible to complete the construction of the two main buildings for the College, a four storied and another three storied with a total of 40 new class rooms financed mainly with grants' said a member of OBA.

The biggest achievement in the schools infrastructure facilities is the new 25 metre Swimming Pool at the College. The College also has continuously excelled in studies and popular sports.

'The College has long felt the need to have a proper house of worship and of late it has been especially so in view of its rapidly growing number of students. A proper house of worship is particularly significant in the upbringing of the youth and the proper formation of the young minds in the modern day social context. No doubt that a man without religious values could be very detrimental to the well-being of accepted social and moral norms of any given society' he added.

In the light of this very vital and hard felt requirement in the College, the Old Boys Association with Rev. Father Rector of the College, has launched a Chapel Construction Project to construct and complete a proper House of Worship at St. Sebastian's College, by the turn of 2008. The project is expected to cost a total of approximately 25 million Rupees and the College is bound to get a major face-lift along with this, as the Chapel is expected to come up in the centre of the existing quadrangle.

Therefore, all proceeds of this Walk to be held on October 7 would be utilized towards the construction of this much needed chapel.

Potter’s magical world…

Potter’s magical world…

The Nation

The Battle of Hogwarts, the world of Harry Potter, has come to a halt, and thousands of fans over the world mourn the end of a series that captivated readers around the world.
There won’t be any more Harry Potter books until and unless J.K. Rowling decides to write another series, and I seriously doubt that she would do so.
I started to read the Harry Potter series as a 13-year-old kid and I never thought that I would be a great fan. A friend of mine was reading a book, which had cover of a boy with a wand, and I found the picture quite interesting. So I got the book and started to read it.
By the time I had read the first two paragraphs, I was already hooked. I saw a whole new world had been created. Rowling had created a world beyond the normal human dreamland.
A land of magic, with witches and wizards – so much more detailed than other magical books. Rowling begins the whole series with a brief description about Harry’s muggle neighbourhood. She introduces a magical world where anyone would love to live.
In Harry Potter’s world, you could do whatever you want simply by casting a spell but under age magic is not allowed, which makes any kid realise that even in a book, kids are not allowed to do whatever they want!
Anyway, the story of Harry Potter begins with a rather unusual way. For those of you who have read the book, this wouldn’t be useful, but my ultimate aim is to convince many people to read the wonderful, dreamland book of Harry Potter.
The story opens with the conspicuous celebration of a normally secretive wizarding world. For many years, it had been terrorised by the evil wizard, Lord Voldemort. The plot begins with Voldemort discovering the Potter family’s hidden refuge, killing Lily and James Potter (Harry Potter’s parents). However, when he attempted to murder their infant son, Harry, the ‘Avada Kedavra’ killing curse he cast rebounded upon him. Voldemort’s body was destroyed, but his spirit survived: he was neither dead nor alive.
Harry, meanwhile, was left with a distinctive lightning bolt-shaped scar on his forehead, the only physical sign of Voldemort’s curse. Harry is the only known survivor of the killing curse, and Voldemort’s mysterious defeat causes the wizarding community to dub Harry, ‘The Boy Who Lived.’
After his parents’ death, Dumbledore (head master of Hogwarts school of wizards) sends Hagrid, a ‘half-giant’ to deliver Harry to his only living relatives, the cruel and non-magical Dursleys, consisting of Uncle Vernon, a bad-tempered uncle with hardly any neck; Aunt Petunia, a long-necked woman who appears to absolutely loathe Harry; and Dudley, their spoiled, overweight son. They attempt in vain to rid him of his magical powers, hide his magical heritage, and severely punish him after any strange occurrences.
It is a book which shows the true value of friendship. Ron and Hermione are Harry’s strength in his dark and cheerful days; they assist him in all his missions. From then onwards the war between Harry and Lord Voldemort begins. The war between good and evil, for justice and order, live or die... this is a book that everyone should read!

By Aisha Edris
Yashan is Sri Lanka’s youngest professional hip hop artiste. At the age of 20, he has already made a name for himself in Sri Lanka’s hyper-competitive music industry as a brilliant musician, producer and entertainer.

To date, Yashan has featured on many number-one hit singles with well-known Sri Lankan artistes such as Ashanthi, Waruna from Sirasa Superstar, and Uresha Ravihari. He has also performed in over 300 high-profile concerts within the last three years with Bathiya & Santhush, Sirasa Sundown Carnival, and the Y FM Anniversary Concert, among others.

Yashan is also the co-host of a programme on Y FM, Saturday Hot Beat, which has become very popular over the airwaves.

It’s a show that’s caters exclusively to music lovers and Yashan hosts it in a brilliant manner.
So how did the radio show come about? “I spoke to Y FM Manager Thanuja about the idea of starting a music show and she was quite taken up with the idea,” said Yashan.

Speaking about his co-host Yashan told SOUL, “DJ Slash of Y FM is the host, he’s a really cool guy to work with.
On our first day of the show I was quite nervous, he and Thanuja really calmed me down and asked me not to panic.”
Saturday Hot Beat introduces new songs each week, and features hip hop, R&B, pop and many more types of music, along with the latest news from the music world.

“We have discussions about current trends and we feature new artists every week. The best part about the show is we have a game which is all about music,” Yashan added.

As for his first show and how it felt, Yashan said, “I was very excited and nervous as it was the first time I was doing a radio show, which really made me panic. After a while Thanuja and DJ Slash had to calm me down and soon enough, I started enjoying it!”

Yashan’s parents were his first critics and both of them listened to every show – they have never missed a single one. As a result, Yashan said, “When I go home after a show, the first thing I get to listen to is about the mistakes that I made.”

Yashan is now under the guidance of two of the most respected players in the game, Bathiya and Santhush, and the release of his debut album has already become one of the most anticipated rap/hip hop events in Sri Lanka.

“I’m hoping to release my album very soon. It will be launched with a big bang. Last week I released my solo album Sadawathuren Part 2. I’m also in the process of shooting my second video, which is going through the editing process,” he pointed out.

For those of you who can’t seem to get enough of this rap sensation, there’s more good news: He’ll be hosting a TV show on Sirasa in a few months time, which will be about fashion, music and artistes.

Stallone faced death threats

Washington, September 29 (ANI):

Actor/director Sylvester Stallone has revealed that he received a series of death threats while filming upcoming sequel 'John Rambo' along the troubled Thailand-Burma border.

The 61-year-old star said that his crew was filming on the Salween River when they were warned that they would be shot if they did not leave the place immediately.

"We were on the Salween River and we were told to get out because we were going to be shot," Contactmusic quoted him as telling American TV show Entertainment Tonight.

Stallone also claimed watching refuges fleeing from Burma to Thailand during his stay at the location.

"It's the most brutal regime in the world and the most secretive. It has an oppressive regime that (keeps all riches) for themselves. Everyone is forced into drugs or prostitution or slavery," he said.

"People are escaping all the time (from Burma), coming over with gaping, maggot-infested wounds, their ears being cut off. You saw a lot of suffering, a lot of malnutrition," he added.

SaReGaMaPa Contestants Meet King Khan – Shahrukh

SaReGaMaPa Contestants Meet King Khan – Shahrukh

Yes! The one and only Shahrukh Khan delights the SRGMP contestants by not only meeting them personaly but showing them why he is what he is today - the Badhsah of Bollywood!
Shahrukh could not make it to the episode whenOm Shanti Om team visited the SaReGaMaPa sets. It was the T20 finals and he was cheering the Indian cricket Team on that day at South Africa. But the contestants got the chance to meet this Super Star on 26th September when he was shooting for an ad film at a studio in Andheri east.
The contestants were too upbeat meeting the King Khan especially Aneek Dhar. " What can I say? He is such a big man and I never thought I'll get to meet him. He never got to see my performances except for Ek Chatur Naar and was full of praise for that."

So what did King Khan have to say about that performance, we asked and Aneek replied laughing "He was impressed not just with my performance but also my get-up. He commented – Beta what "Mast" you were looking with all that moustaches and all, looked just like a hero. On top of it you sang so well too." Coming from the King Khan himself, to Aneek this was a compliment of a life time. On Sharukh's request he sang the song "Satrangi" which Aneek feels is a matter of honour for him. He now has just one wish – He gets the chance to do playback singing for Sharukh soon.

We also asked Raja about this meet and found even he was too overwhelmed and happy meeting the Hero. "I simply loved the man, his style everything. Best was the way he treated us. He was so friendly as if he knew us for long. He is such a simple and down to earth person. Not for once we felt we were meeting a Star. In our own language I would use just one word for him – "Milansaar". That's how we found found him."

Amanat too had almost the same feelings as the other two. "He is such a simple man. We felt as if we know each other for many years now. The way he was hugging us, holding our hands and wishing us, it was too overwhelming. Never dreamt that I would get to meet him and that too at such close quarters!! He even asked us for refreshments but we refused as for us meeting him was enough in itself. He even signed autographs in our diaries."

We are sure these contestants would go back from this contest with some really nice memories and from their comments it looks like this meeting with King Khan would always be a memorable day for them.

Iraj - From the new generation

From the new generation :
Amazing Iraj

-- The Friday ' News

Iraj Weeraratne born February 21, 1981, is a Music Producer known for his involvement in the island’s new generation music scene.

Iraj has amazed Sri Lanka’s music moguls through his unprecedented climb to the helm of the island’s entertainment industry. His amazing track record of No.1 singles, a consecutive series of top 10 hits, and last year’s No.1 debut album “Iraj” has made him go beyond a local household name, into an internationally recognized and celebrated figure.

In modern Sri Lanka, the phenomenal growth of hip hop culture, and the ability of this music to blend into the island’s cultural and social context, have been catapulted by Iraj’s influence in shaping the interests of this tiny nation’s music tastes.

What amazes Sri Lanka’s entertainment analysts most is not how his debut album managed to break the island’s record for the ‘All time fastest-selling’ and ‘Fastest - selling debut’ after it surpassed the all important 100,000 mark in just four weeks, but how he was able to sell his “gangsta” beats from the urban to the rural, across age, racial and gender barriers.

The international attention paid to “Roots” meant that Iraj and his music were now being focused on beyond the shores of his tiny island home.

Following the success of his singles “Ill Noize” and “Ahankara Nagare” both in Sri Lanka and in European Asian charts, his next smash hit “J Town Story”, about the hopes and despair of a young boy from the war-torn city of Jaffna in northern Sri Lanka, cracked the neighbouring South Indian Tamil market. His increasing popularity in gigantic India meant that his music was to soon go beyond the South Indian market, capturing the attention of India’s HOM Records and getting his No.1 smash hit with Ranidu - “Ahankara Nagare” featured in their Asian Flava Vol: 01 album and video play on both MTV India and Channel V.

Now with his own radio show on Sri Lanka’s biggest Sinhala radio station Sirasa FM (Re-mix show with Iraj), a string of sold-out performances, and new collaborations with local artistes, “Iraj” has become an industry to himself.

Iraj’s 1st album was one big success. His second album and video DVD is expected. Iraj launched his own clothing brand “I Wear”.

The Greenwich Royal Observatory - Timekeeper to the world

The Greenwich Royal Observatory
Timekeeper to the world

-- Friday' News Paper

Greenwich is a lovely peaceful village about 15 miles from Central London on the south bank of the River Thames. The village is famous for the buildings of the National Maritime Museum, the Royal Naval Academy and the Royal Observatory sitting on a beautiful hilltop in Greenwich.

The observatory building was built by the great British architect of the 17th century, Sir Christopher Wren in 1675. Parts of the old observatory are now a museum and called the Flamsteed House.

Thousands of visitors who arrive at the Greenwich observatory can see the big clock-face showing the Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) and the Greenwich meridian marked on the ground from which the longitude is measured.
The Flamsteed House has now put up a millennium e-clock showing the time, date and year with an accuracy of a millionth of a second.

What is a Meridian?
A meridian is an arbitrary north/south line chosen by an astronomer. With a telescope or quadrant positioned on a meridian, the astronomer can measure the exact moment the stars and planets cross, or transit the sight of the instrument.

By comparing thousands of observations taken from the same meridian, it is possible to build up an accurate map of the night sky. In the past many meridians have been used by astronomers, Greenwich was recognised as the home of the Prime Meridian, or Longitude 00 in 1884.

And, therefore, as he was a man so greatly cherished by his fellow-citizens during his lifetime, so let a grateful posterity venerate his memory. Born in the year of our Lord 1656. Died 1741/2. This stone was consecrated to excellent parents by to devoted daughters in the year 1742.”

India’s Nightingale’s Birthday falls today _ Happy Birthday Lata

India’s Nightingale’s Birthday falls today
Happy Birthday Lata
Pyar ki pyar pale

Lata Mangeshkar
Background information
Born September 28, 1929 (age 78)
Indore, Central India.

----Friday' News

Lata Mangeshkar (born September 28, 1929) is India’s foremost female singer. Focusing mainly on Hindi and Marathi film music (playback singing), she has sung in over twenty major Indian languages.
Lata Mangeshkar is only the second Indian singer to have received the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honour, the other being M. S. Subbulakshmi. In fact, no other Indian singer of non-classical music has been awarded anything higher than the Padma Bhushan, the nation’s third highest civilian honour as of April 2007.

Mangeshkar was featured in the Guinness Book of World Records from 1974 to 1991 for “most recordings” in the world. The claim was that she has reportedly recorded not less than 25,000 solo, duet and chorus-backed songs in 20 Indian languages between 1948 to 1974 (30,000 songs between 1948 and 1987, according to 1987 edition). However, reputed sources introduced concerns for its veracity, claiming that the number of songs was highly exaggerated, and Mangeshkar’s sister, singer Asha Bhosle has recorded more songs than her.

Childhood
Lata Mangeshkar was born in a Maharashtrian family at Sikh Mohalla, Indore in Central India Agency now in Madhya Pradesh. Her father Pandit Deenanath Mangeshkar was a classical singer and theatre actor. Her mother Shudhhamati was Deenanath Mangeshkar’s second wife. The family’s original surname was Hardikar, but Pandit Deenanath later changed it to Mangeshkar to identify with his native village, Mangeshi in Goa. Lata was originally named “Hema”, but was later renamed after Latika, a character in one of her father’s plays, Bhaan Bandhan. She was the firstborn child, to be followed by siblings Hridayanath, Asha, Usha and Meena.

Lata Mangeshkar’s first music teacher was her father, Deenanath Mangeshkar. Raised in Maharashtra, she started working as an actress in her father’s musical plays (sangeet nataks) at the age of five. Deenanath’s recitals and lessons left a strong impression on his daughter, as did the songs of K.L. Saigal, who was her favorite singer and idol. Her formal education was limited to one day in the school. On the first day in the school, she started teaching songs to other children. When the teacher stopped her, she was so angry that she stopped going to the school.

Early cinema career
In 1942, when she was just 13 years old, Lata Mangeshkar’s father died of heart disease. She was taken care of by Vinayak Damodar Karnataki (better known as Master Vinayak), a close friend of the Mangeshkar family. Master Vinayak was the owner of Navyug Chitrapat Film Company, and the father of actress Nanda. He helped Lata Mangeshkar get started with her career, and was a godfather to the five Mangeshkar siblings.

To earn money, Lata Mangeshkar played cameo roles in many Hindi and Marathi films. Her first film as an actress was Navyug Chitrapat’s Marathi movie, Pahili Mangalagaur (1942), in which Master Vinayak ensured a bit part for her. Her first film song was Naatli Chaitrachi Navalai from the same film, composed by Dada Chandekar. She had earlier recorded the song Naachu Ya Gade Khelu Saari Mani Haus Bhari, composed by Sadashivrao Nevrekar, for the Marathi movie Kiti Hasaal (1942), produced by Vasant Joglekar. However, the song was dropped from the film. Her first Hindi song was Mata Ek Sapoot Ki Duniya Badal De Tu for a Marathi film Gajabhau (1943).

Lata Mangeshkar moved to Mumbai in 1945, when Master Vinayak’s company shifted its headquarters to the city. She learnt Hindustani classical music under Ustad Amanat Ali Khan Bhendibazaarwale. Her first song in a Hindi film was Paa Lagoon Kar Jori, composed by Datta Davjekar, for Vasant Joglekar’s Aap Ki Seva Mein (released in 1946). She and her sister Asha played minor roles alongside Noor Jehan in Master Vinayak’s first Hindi film, Badi Maa (1945). Lata also sang a bhajan, Maata Tere Charnon Mein, which was picturised on Asha. She was introduced to major music director Vasant Desai during the recording of Master Vinayak’s second Hindi film, Subhadra (1946). After Ustad Amanat Ali Khan migrated to Pakistan following the partition of India in 1947, she learnt classical music under Amanat Khan Devaswale. She was also trained by Pandit Tulsidas Sharma, a pupil of Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan.

After Master Vinayak’s death in 1948, the music director Ghulam Haider mentored Lata Mangeshkar as a singer. At that time, the most popular female singers in Hindi film industury were the ones with heavier, and often nasal voices, such as Noor Jehan, Shamshad Begum and Zohrabai Ambalewali. Haider introduced Lata Mangeshkar to the producer Sashadhar Mukherjee, who was working on the movie Shaheed (1948). Mukherjee dismissed her voice as “too thin”. Haider was annoyed and stated that in coming years, the producers and the directors will fall at Mangeshkar’s feet, begging her to sing in their films. He gave Lata Mangeshkar her first major break with the song Dil Mera Toda in the film Majboor (1948).

Initially, Lata Mangeshkar tried to imitate Noor Jehan, the most popular singer of that time, but later, she developed her own unique style of singing. After a remark from Dilip Kumar about her Maharashtrian accent, Lata Mangeshkar took Urdu lessons from a maulvi called Shafi, as many of the Hindustani (Hindi-Urdu) film songs were composed by Urdu poets in that period.

In late 1940s, several mainstream music directors started patronising Lata Mangeshkar. Her first superhit song was Aayega Aanewaala from the movie Mahal (1949), composed by Khemchand Prakash and picturised on Madhubala. Mahal was a hit film and a turning point for both Madhubala and Mangeshkar.

Shah Rukh Khan (SRK) is all praises for team India

Shah Rukh Khan (SRK) is all praises for team India
27 Sep 2007, 0000 hrs IST,AFSANA AHMED ,TNN

The world saw him out there at the Wanderers in Johannesburg on Monday, cheering the Men in Blue, shouting Chak De, India and punching the air in triumph as M S Dhoni’s Demons demolished Pakistan to win the inaugural Twenty20 World Cup. Shah Rukh Khan spoke to CT after the euphoria had sunk in.

His trip wasn’t planned. The BCCI and Sharad Pawar had invited him. It was kind of them, said SRK. I was sitting at home doing nothing because of the Ganpati holiday. The game was just for three hours, I could make it. I would never have been able to go for a day-night One-dayer. My son Aryan wanted to go. And I was glad I could take him for a World Cup final, everything just fell into place, he added, explaining his presence at the stadium.

Former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif had mentioned earlier that it was SRK’s presence that inspired Dhoni and his men to victory. He was the ‘X’ factor that lent that extra edge to a team that was already riding a wave of confidence with Lady Luck alongside them.

Amused at being described as Team India’s lucky mascot, Shah Rukh Khan said, That’s not true at all. Success isn’t about one person, it’s a collective effort. Let’s not take away from the boys their dues. This success belonged solely and only to Dhoni and his boys. They played superbly. We can only thank them for making us proud.

But did he not think that his role as hockey coach Kabir Khan in Chak De! India had inspired all of India to compete at whatever it was doing more fiercely and proudly? Well, yes, Chak De has enthused India with a new spirit. But Chak De, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai are defining movies of my career.

I am glad to be able to contribute through them. But, in this case, I was another Indian among the spectators cheering the boys with my mind, body, heart and soul. Yeah, I was praying fervently as well, but then so was everyone else, laughed SRK.
His role as the hockey coach has emboldened SRK to offer this tip to the new One-day captain M S Dhoni:

It’s important to instill confidence in the team. A captain has to be in sync with his players. Success is all about team spirit. Treat every player as an adult who has his own mind. Leave them with responsibility and you see magic. You just channelise their energy and help them put things in perspective when they require it. He added, Dhoni scores on all these counts.

Sources Say Britney's to Blame for Paparazzi Problems
- Fox News

Despite living a relatively quiet life, “Let’s Get Loud” singer Jennifer Lopez and hubby Marc Anthony can still empathize with the “intense media pressure” Britney Spears faces.

“It feels disgusting,” Anthony told “Access Hollywood” when explaining how it feels to be followed by packs of prying paparazzi. “It feels disgusting, period! You feel like prey. You feel like a slab of meat.”

The couple suggests back doors and secret routes as ways to avoid the paps.

But insiders say this is where the Britster bombs.

“Even though Britney hasn’t actually released an album for such a long time, she has remained in the limelight through making herself a tabloid target,” a former Spears employee told FOXNews.com. “She deliberately goes out in very public places where she knows the paps will be, but turns around and pretends that they are ruining her life.”

The employee recalled a recent incident at The Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills in which Brit insisted on “checking in” for just an hour or two for some tabloid treatment.

According to the source, Spears was advised by her people not to go anywhere near the hotel as dozens of cameras were there due to the fact that a few big-name films were holding press junkets that day.

However, this reportedly made the pop princess even more determined to go there.

“She caused an absolute frenzy with the media,” the source said. “She checked in, lay out by the pool in public view in her bikini and then left after just a couple of hours when it started to die down a bit. It was ridiculous. I don’t feel sorry for her, she totally asks for the attention.”

The owner of a prominent boutique in Beverly Hills where Brit regularly shops also suspects that the “Crazy” crooner even tells the photogs where she will be.

“The paparazzi start culminating outside hours before she even gets here,” the store owner said. “They are always given the heads up of approximate times she’ll be arriving, and often I receive a call as well. Sometimes it sounds like her bodyguard, but other times I’m sure it is Ms. Spears herself letting me know what time she’ll be here.”

Spears again threw herself into a spotlight saga in Santa Monica on Monday night as she drove through a car park with her sons in the back seat. The songstress swarmed through the packs of paps and almost “Did It Again” by stopping just short of slamming into another parked car.

Sri Lankan film industry enters diamond era

Sri Lankan film industry enters diamond era

---Daily News
E. Weerapperuma

We are in the final quarter of the year. This year marked the diamond Jubilee of the Sinhala cinema and it is historically, socially and culturally a very significant event, which invites us to travel through the past to see whether the Sinhala cinema has grown old or has it grown to be the cinema industry about which we could be proud of.

It is a paradox. Feelings are mixed and complicated, making it impossible to give a straightforward answer. Looking through the mirror of history one could see that there is a considerable growth and also a lot of room for improvement.

It is also important to underline the fact that the Sinhala cinema should avoid getting carried away by the aspects of western or some aspects of the eastern cinema.

We should stop seeking talent from neighbouring countries as we have a wealth of untapped resources and persons to make it indigenous without giving room to unwarranted parties to pollute it. Dr. Lester James Peries' Rekawa, still remains our role model, a masterpiece as I believe it has understood the 'psyche' of the film going public both here and over seas.

Rekawa is of paramount importance as it was a home-grown film. It opened wide the scope of film making instead of being confined to the studios, permanently brushing off the stain of the Madras mark, as the breeding ground of Sinhala Cinema had taken away the national face of our cinema from the very inception.

The present exercise is an attempt to delve into the past, to understand the evolution of the Sinhala cinema. Many were the difficulties, the Sinhala Cinema had to face right at the conceptual level.

The history of Sinhala cinema would have been a different one and by now would even have passed the diamond age. (The readers are welcome to educate us with information they have to make this exercise a success.

We invite them to be brief and to the point as space is a premium). Critics of the Sinhala cinema have pointed out that those who entered the field to invest money on films saw the making of films as one other lucrative business, and the motive behind their investment was financial gain.

The purpose of investment was predominantly commercial. One could verify this statement perusing through the pages of Sinhavalokanaya(Life Story of Lester James Peries by Asanka Sayakkara, Stamford Publication-2004; and A.D.Ranjith Kumara's Ada Siyawasaka Ridee Reykawa, a publication of the Fast Publishing (Pvt) Ltd, - 2006. The OCIC Chitrapata Varshikaya - 1974 edited by Rev.Fr. Ernest Poruthota also throws light in this regard).

The pages of these books speak of hardships, rejections and humiliations the Sinhala Cinema had to face at the hands of those who thought only of accumulating wealth, in arriving at the "prestigious" position the Sinhala Cinema enjoys today.

It is also equally important to examine the period prior to 1947. The fate of films such as Lanka Geethaya, Rajakeeya Wickremaya or Shantha need our thoughtful attention in the process of developing an indigenous cinema.

LANKA GEETHAYA (1935), a documentary filmed by Basil Wright, a British National was considered the best and finest documentary in the World Cinema. Even Professors like Roger Manuel have commended it.

Although we refer to the film " Kadawuna Poronduwa" (1947) as the first speech and sound film produced in our country, turning the pages of our cinema history we see that the film as an industry was taking shape as far back as 1925. One of our former Finance Ministers and leader of the Lanka Sama Samaja Party Dr.N.M.Perera came to the silver screen as an actor playing a role in "Rajakeeya Wickramaya" directed by T.A.J.Noorbraphy, a silent film produced in this country.

Of course Sri Lankans were not fortunate enough to see that film as after the screening of that film both in Bombay and Singapore, the reel containing this film is said to have been burnt and it was alleged that some sinister hand behind its destruction.

Because , most of you visit here to read and get to know latest information regarding Indian Idol. Now it’s over and you are free to go if you don’t want to visit here and don’t like to read my articles.

But, If you can stay with me like past, I’m very happy. Some times some things happening and we can’t predict when. There’ll be more thing to discuss in time to come. All of your comments appreciated and first you must have created Google free account to post comments. Some time ago, When Indian Idol season 3 has begun I was not interested much. But, when I was changing channels , suddenly saw a face with some kind of different voice on SONY SET. The 1st reason I wanted to watch Indian Idol was that strange voice. He is none other than “PRASHANT”. After that time, I was familiar with other voices as well. Then, my favorite voices shifted to each ones with each weeks performances. Something strange was happened. The one , who was the reason behind to watch the show for me, WON the title of Indian Idol , without others. In the middle of the show time of the season, Changed my mind from one from others. But finally , The Reason won the title.

All the top 12 singers are very good, and nothing compare to other Programs those are showing on other channels. Indian Idol is the best , and One of the most entertainment shows in the world.

We can’t forget the below competitors, who have given more entertainment for us in the past. Hope they’ll do in the future too. These are the most talented singers in our era. I wish all of you to do much better performances in due case too. We miss you ! too ! But wish come in many ways without delay. Don’t think we’ll forget you, and pleasure ll of you have given.

The heart of the Indian Idol is, Anu Malik. Without him there never be a such huge show. After that, Alisha, Javed and Udith , we wish all the best for you in the future. Hope, to see in the next season also.

When I go back to the past, there were very much entertainment moments to so sad moments in the season. Every singer has some unique ability that can’t compare with any one in the world. All of them are very talented singers, must use the chances they are facing in time to come. They are not a country asset, it’s global. Even me, I’m not an Indian or never visited there. But we are grateful about anything if we feel it’s good. I think, the entertainment industry in India can’t compare with any other countries in the world, it’s the best !

The Most Waited Indian Idol Final will take place in Delhi on 23 September as a two-hour show--------- John Vs Bipasha in Indian Idol this Saturday

Its John Vs Bipasha in Indian Idol this Saturday
With the Grand Finale just a week away, the finalists Prashant and Amit team up with Bipasha and John respectively, and give powerful performances. Don't miss all the action this Saturday...

John Abraham and Bipasha team up with Indian Idol Finalists;

Amit Paul and Prashant Tamang

On Saturday, September 15 at 9 p.m.

The grand finale of Indian Idol is just a step away. As one looks back on the last few months --from the auditions in different parts of the country, through the piano rounds, theatre rounds and to the last gala round it has been a truly memorable journey. Season 3 of Indian Idol has unanimously been declared the most popular with its worldwide viewers, talent and popularity of its contestants.

The gala round culminates this week. The two contestants who met during the piano round in Mumbai and became friends almost instantly, and have remained room mates and best buddies throughout the contest, are ironically pitted against each other in the finals. To their credit, Amit Paul and Prashant Tamang are fighting to the finish to deliver their best, yet with not a dent in their friendship which speaks volumes about the people they are.

The last gala round before the finals will be a very special event. It will have two very special guests – John Abraham and Bipasha Basu. The two decide to be on opposite teams to play a different ball game. Their "Goal" is to support the two competitors. As Bipasha chooses to support Amit, Bipasha's mother also supported her daughter's decision, and sided Amit. John threw his weight behind Prashant. So with the battle lines drawn and the sides picked, there was no time to waste as the fabulous fight of music rolled on...

In the first round, each contestant sang a song of their choice. In the second, they sang a song given by the other as challenge. Prashant sang Amit's choice of song for him Badi mushkil hai … with such gay abandon, that he had Annu Malek's vote for the Indian Idol title! Prashant's challenge for Amit was to sing Bulla ki jaana main kaun.. Amit got a standing ovation from all the four judges for it! Bipasha hoped that some day soon, Amit would do playback singing for John, so that she would have the pleasure of hearing a romantic song in Amit's voice sung for her! Did someone say the two had broken up???

In the final segment both contestants sang Tanhaiyee… from Dil chahta hai… the judges found it hard to decide who was better. It is going to be even harder for the viewers, this is a fact. Once again every viewer wishes that the best man wins the Indian Idol title. Go ahead and select your best man!

Do not miss Indian Idol for anything on Saturday, September 15th at 9 pm only on Sony Entertainment Television .

A Report From, The Future Sri Lanka ' Site
-Ben Jonson, 1623

Driving over 100 miles from Central London, I joined hundreds of secular pilgrims moving down Henley Road in Stratford-upon-Avon to pay homage to the greatest and most famous of English writers and probably the most popular dramatist who has ever lived, William Shakespeare (1564-1616).

The little countryside town was peaceful with no traffic or high-rise buildings. Instead, stretches of fields and barns that were planted with fruit-trees, vegetable, herb, traditional flowers and shrubs were a beautiful sight. Wild flowers described by Shakespeare such as the ‘pale primrose’, ‘blue-veined violets’, ‘the freckled cowslip, burnet and green clover’, and ‘rough thistles’ were in bloom beside walkways and in gardens.

A visit to Shakespeare’s house helps to satisfy the curiosity about his family and background. It also reminds that although his career took him to London, his native town was of significance throughout his life.
Stratford was the place where he was born, went to school, attended church, met his wife Anne Hathaway, first saw plays, saw his children grow up, invested in property, retired and died. He inherited the house when his father died in 1601 and bequeathed it on his own death to his eldest daughter. The Birthplace became a national memorial in 1847.

The show started off with none other than Hussain welcoming and cheering the crowd. This was followed by a grand Maharashtrain entry for the finalists- Amit and Prashant;they looked majestic, wearing Marathi Paghdis, they came on the performance floors from their caravans in decorated Auto Rickshaws, and were welcomed onto the stage with dhols, trumpets and much more. The whole atmosphere was festive, nevertheless!

Hussain, Amit and Prashant welcomed the audience in their own typical ways, and just when you thought that the stage couldn’t get any hotter, Sanjay Dutt made a guest appearance on stage to cheer for two competitors and to also thank the audience for their support during his crucial time. With the festive occasion of Ganesh Chathurthi coming up, Sanjay and the contestants performed the Ganapati Arti on stage, bringing in a Pandit and a statue of Lord Ganesha. Sanjay quickly bid everyone a farewell, after officially giving the count down to the voting lines being open and followed it up by singing a song from the movie - Kaante and by talking a little about his latest release - Dhamaal.

Soon after Sanjay’s exit, Amit and Prashant consecutively took over the stage. Amit made the audience fall in love with love all over again by singing - Pehla Nasha, Nasha yeh Pyaar Ka Nasha Hain, and Yaad Aa Rahan Hain Tera Pyaar… The girls in the audience simply couldn’t get enough of him. Later, Prashant got the entire crowd on their tows by singing - Rind Posh Mal from Mission Kashmir, Dil Ne from Kaho Na pyaar hain, and Bas Ek Pal.

Soon after the performances, Ritesh Deshmukh joined the performers and spoke to the audience about his new film - Dhamaal.
