Who will clinch the top awards?


Sumathi Tele Awards ceremony – small screen’s glittering event will be held for the 12th successive year on June 29 at Waters Edge, Battaramulla amidst a star gathering.

Forty two awards will be presented at this year’s event for creations telecast on all channels between January 1 to December 3l, 2006.

Special awards for the Best Television Musical programme, the Best Current Affairs Programme, Best Documentary and the Best Television Announcer along with the U.W Sumathipala Lifetime Achievement award to two veteran artistes who have made invaluable contributions to the industry. They will join the past life time winners like D.B Nihalsinghe, Gamini Fonseka, Titus Thotawatta, Joe Abeywickrama, Iranganie Serasinghe, Malani Fonseka, Tony Ranasinghe, K.A.W Perera, Hugo Fernando, Cristy Leonard Perera, Ravindra Randeniya, Denvaka Hamine, Henry Jayasena, Sathischandra Edirisinghe, Robin Fernando, Latha Walpola, Wijeyratne Warakagoda, Shanthi Leka and Shan Wickramasinghe.

Furthermore, three main awards and two merit awards will be awarded for the television commercial, the most popular Tele drama, most popular teledrama actor and actress during this period.

The Sumathi Awards ceremony is the biggest event that showcases the talent of the television industry in recent times

This event will be telecast from 10.00 pm on ITN - the official television partner and the official Radio Lakhanda, Choreographers Channa Wijewardana and Chandana Wickramasinghe will be in charge of the colourful dances of the evening while Navaratna Gamage will provide the music. Stage designing will be handled by Nimal Jayawardene, sounds and lighting by Music Makers.
